The Appleton School Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

The CEIAG programme at The Appleton School is designed to support students in developing the skills, knowledge and experience that enable them to make informed decisions about their future career options. Students learn about the different educational routes available, the range of occupations and sectors that make up the labour market and consider how they will choose a job and do well in the future.

We provide a comprehensive and up to date programme that is based upon the Gatsby Benchmarks (for more information click here) and the Career Development Institute’s framework for Careers Education (for more information click here). The core programmes of study are delivered through Citizenship and PSHEE lessons and during tutor time and this is supported by a programme of extra-curricular activities. Students will also learn about careers throughout the curriculum and each department will deliver activities linking their subject to relevant careers and the skills required.

The Sixth Form Programme consists of an excellent varied programme of visiting speakers from industry and education as well as visits to higher education establishments, employers and careers fairs.

All students in years 11 and 13 are offered an appointment with a qualified careers advisor through the Careers and Employability Department and all students are able to self-refer. During period 6 on a Wednesday we regularly hold careers talks and invite local employers, colleges, universities and training providers to come in to talk to interested students about their programmes of study or careers in their industry.

We also understand that generally parents are the first point of call for career development information which is why we regularly update parents/guardians via email with careers information. Parents/guardians will also be notified when students have their one to one guidance discussion with the Careers Advisor so that they can help their child prepare.
